For the Chocolate Mousse:
- 1 cup heavy cream
- 4 oz semi-sweet chocolate chopped
- 2 tbsp sugar
- 1 tsp pure vanilla extract
- 1/2 tsp peppermint extract
- Pinch of salt
For Garnish (Optional):
- Whipped cream
- Chocolate shavings or mini chocolate chips
- Fresh mint leaves
Step 1: Melt the Chocolate
Place the chopped semi-sweet chocolate in a heatproof bowl.
Set the bowl over a small saucepan of simmering water (double boiler method).
Stir continuously until the chocolate is completely smooth and melted. Pro Tip: Don’t let the bowl touch the water—this prevents the chocolate from seizing.
Remove from heat and let it cool slightly while you prepare the cream.
Step 2: Whip the Cream
Pour the cold heavy cream into a large mixing bowl.
Add sugar, vanilla extract, and a pinch of salt.
Whisk using a hand whisk or electric mixer until soft peaks form. Pro Tip: Stop whisking at soft peaks—you want the cream to be fluffy but not overwhipped, or it can turn grainy.
Step 3: Combine Chocolate and Mint
Stir the peppermint extract into the slightly cooled melted chocolate.
Gently fold a small portion of the whipped cream into the chocolate to lighten it.
Gradually fold in the remaining whipped cream until fully combined. Pro Tip: Use a gentle folding motion to keep the mousse airy and light.
Step 4: Portion and Chill
Spoon the mousse into serving glasses or ramekins, filling each about three-quarters full.
Smooth the tops with the back of a spoon or spatula.
Refrigerate for at least 2–3 hours to set. Overnight works even better if you want a firmer texture.
Step 5: Add Garnish
Just before serving, top each mousse with a dollop of whipped cream, chocolate shavings or mini chocolate chips, and a fresh mint leaf.
Serve chilled and enjoy your rich, airy chocolate mint dessert!
