Ingredients
  

For the Bread:

  • 4 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 teaspoon baking soda
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 1 ¾ cups buttermilk

Step 1: Preheat and Prepare

  • Preheat your oven to 425°F (220°C).
  • Line a baking sheet with parchment paper or lightly grease a cast-iron skillet.

Step 2: Mix the Dry Ingredients

  • In a large mixing bowl, combine 4 cups of all-purpose flour, 1 teaspoon of baking soda, and 1 teaspoon of salt.
  • If you like a slightly sweet bread, add 2 tablespoons of sugar here.
  • Whisk together until evenly distributed.

Step 3: Add the Buttermilk

  • Make a well in the center of the dry ingredients.
  • Pour in 1 ¾ cups of buttermilk.

Step 4: Add Optional Ingredients

Step 6: Bake the Bread

  • Place the loaf in the preheated oven.

Step 7: Cool and Serve

  • Remove the bread from the oven and let it cool on a wire rack for at least 15 minutes.
