Cottage Cheese Taco Dip

What makes it stand out is the base. Instead of the usual sour cream or cream cheese-heavy dip, this version uses cottage cheese blended until smooth and rich.

Equipment

  • Blender or Food Processor
  • Mixing Bowl
  • Spatula
  • Small Cutting Board
  • Sharp Knife
  • Serving bowl or dish

Ingredients

For the Dip Base

  • 2 cups cottage cheese
  • 1/2 cup sour cream or Greek yogurt
  • 2 –3 tablespoons taco seasoning
  • 1/2 cup salsa chunky or smooth, your choice
  • 1 tablespoon lime juice

For the Toppings

  • 1/2 cup shredded cheddar cheese
  • 1/4 cup diced tomatoes
  • 1/4 cup chopped red onions
  • 1/4 cup sliced black olives optional
  • 1 –2 tablespoons chopped jalapeños optional
  • Fresh cilantro for garnish

For Serving

  • Tortilla chips
  • Crackers or sliced veggies carrots, cucumbers, bell peppers

Instructions

Step 1: Blend the cottage cheese base

  • Add the cottage cheese to a blender or food processor.
  • Blend until completely smooth and creamy.
  • Stop once or twice to scrape down the sides so everything blends evenly.
  • Pro tip: Blend longer than you think you need to—this is what gives the dip that rich, restaurant-style texture instead of a lumpy base.

Step 2: Add flavor to the base

  • Transfer the blended cottage cheese into a mixing bowl.
  • Stir in taco seasoning, salsa, and lime juice.
  • Mix until everything is fully combined and the color looks evenly seasoned.
  • Pro tip: Taste at this stage and adjust the taco seasoning if needed. Some blends are saltier or spicier than others, so go gradually.

Step 3: Adjust consistency

  • Check the texture of your dip.
  • If it feels too thick, add a spoonful or two of salsa or a splash of water and mix again.
  • If it’s too thin, let it chill for a few minutes to naturally thicken.

Step 4: Layer and add toppings

  • Spread the dip into a serving bowl or shallow dish.
  • Sprinkle shredded cheddar cheese evenly on top.
  • Add diced tomatoes, onions, jalapeños, olives, and cilantro over the surface.
  • Pro tip: Don’t mix the toppings in—layering keeps the dip visually appealing and gives each scoop a mix of textures and flavors.

Step 5: Chill and serve

  • Place the dip in the refrigerator for at least 20–30 minutes before serving.
  • Serve cold or slightly chilled with tortilla chips, crackers, or fresh veggies.
  • Enjoy immediately for the best texture and flavor balance.
